The route will be marked with signs and chalk. Walk marshals will be available along the route as well. For those interested in more specifics, see below.
The route is 10k or 6.2 miles. The first part of the route consists of a loop through the beautiful Hoosier Prairie Nature Preserve. We ask you to take extra care to leave the area undisturbed. The Enbridge pipeline facility will be visible from the trail. The trail is flat, but covered with mulch, so those with mobility limitations may want to skip this portion of the route. High pressure pipeline markers around the preserve will be indicated.
Walkers will then be shuttled a short distance (for safety reasons) to the nearest sidewalk. We will proceed north on Kennedy on sidewalks, cutting east to Erie, and then pick up the bike trail. High pressure pipeline markers will be visible near schools, waterways, and homes. There is a water fountain along the bike trail and there will be a restroom and water station available at Sip Café.
We will follow the bike trail to the Indiana Welcoming Center, where there will also be restrooms and water fountain available. More high pressure pipeline markers will be visible near homes and a playground.
From there, we will make a loop around beautiful Carlson Oxbow park. We ask you to take extra care to leave the area undisturbed. The park trail is flat, but unpaved, so those with mobility limitations may wish to skip the Oxbow loop portion of the route.
We will then return to the sidewalk and walk north to the Hessville Park shelter, where a light lunch will be provided. There will be music and an open mike, so if you have an event or organization to promote, you can do so.
Shuttles will then return you to your vehicle at your convenience.
